Harm reduction

Harm reduction field work

Harm reduction services are also provided in the context of field work, supplementing the harm reduction services provided at centres and the mobile unit. Field work is done by our employees who walk around in places all over Estonia where drugs are used, or where people who use drugs congregate or pass through.

The field service is aimed mainly at people who use drugs and their loved ones with no access to stationary harm reduction centres or other services of assistance, or who for some reason do not wish to visit a harm reduction centre.

The aim of the service is to reduce harms and risks associated with drug use, provide counselling on topics such as safer drug use and overdose prevention, offer as appropriate a selection of health care and social services as possible, and motivate people with substance use issues to seek treatment.

Field workers offer the following services to people who use drugs and their loved ones:

  • provision of information about harm reduction centres and their services,
  • counselling on safer use of drugs,
  • counselling on overdose prevention,
  • provision of naloxone and relevant training,
  • needle and syringe exchange,
  • distribution of injecting equipment,
  • distribution of condoms and other equipment, and assisting in their proper use, if needed,
  • counselling on diseases and sexual health care,
  • redirection to health care and social services.

Service is free for everyone and anonymous!

We welcome people who use drugs and their loved ones.

Feel free to approach our field workers or get in touch!
